Program & Activity Details

The IACUC Administrators Association offers a range of professional development activities designed to strengthen program consistency, support regulatory compliance, and encourage meaningful peer engagement.

Whenever possible, virtual activities are scheduled on Wednesday afternoons to provide predictability and help participants plan.

Each webinar includes: Approximately 1.5 hours of content A didactic presentation by experienced administrators or invited experts Moderated discussion to explore questions, share strategies, and discuss real-world applications These sessions are ideal for administrators seeking targeted, topic-specific learning.

Half Day Virtual Meetings

Best for: Deeper exploration and peer comparison Half-day virtual meetings provide a broader, interactive forum for community engagement and in-depth discussion of key themes in IACUC administration. Participants come together to: Compare institutional practices Discuss new or evolving expectations Identify areas where additional clarity or consistency is needed Each meeting is organized around a unifying theme (e.g., IACUC Administrators’ Essentials or Using AI to Develop Training Programs) and uses structured slide decks to guide solution-focused discussion across multiple related topics.

Brown Bag Discussions

Best for: Informal discussion and idea exchange Brown bag sessions are informal, conversational discussions typically held over lunch. Each session includes: A brief introduction to the topic, followed by Open discussion where participants share experiences, examples, and resources These sessions support quick idea exchange and community-driven problem solving.

Face-to-Face Best Practice Meetings

Best for: Immersive learning and networking In-person meetings are two-day learning experiences that include: Extended discussions and hands-on learning opportunities Dedicated time for networking and peer connection A field trip on the second afternoon, when possible Field trips offer rare opportunities to observe animal care and use activities firsthand. Past examples include bat mist netting in Arizona, a behind-the-scenes tour of the San Diego Zoo Veterinary Hospital, and a visit to the Duke Lemur Center in North Carolina.

Throughout the transition, the Association’s founders and long-standing leaders, Bill Greer and Ron Banks, will remain fully engaged. They will continue serving as faculty, program facilitators, and mentors, supporting the Alliance’s core faculty and advisory board while helping guide the development of its long-term governance structure.
